Only high-risk systems listed in annex III of the AI Act need to register.
You need to register the high-risk AI system in the database before placing it on the market or putting it into service.
No, AI systems intended to be used as safety components in the management and operation of critical digital infrastructure, road traffic, or in the supply of water, gas, heating or electricity are obliged to register in a national database. Please contact your national authorities.
Yes, the obligation to register applies to systems exempted under article 6 (3) as well.
You need to register your deployment of the AI system only if a) the AI system is listed in annex III of the AI Act, and b) if you are a public authority, European Union institution, body, office or agency or persons acting on their behalf.
The overall database is publicly available. However, high-risk AI systems in certain security-relevant areas will only be visible to specific national authorities.
Registration Process
It is the obligation of the provider, or, where applicable, an authorised representative to register the high-risk AI system in the database.
In a first step you need to register your company/entity as a provider. Once your registration is complete, all you need to do is to fill in the online form. If you have more than one high-risk AI system, simply fill in the form as many times as you need.
For registration of the provider you need to prove your identity. The required documents or references vary among Member States. For registration of the high-risk AI system, you a copy of the EU declaration of conformity and electronic instructions for use. If the high-risk AI system uses biometrics as listed in point 1 of annex III, you will also need a copy of the certificate issued by the notified body.
It is the obligation of the deployer to register the deployment if the deployer is a public authority, European Union institution, body, office or agency or persons acting on their behalf. If the deployer is none of the above, there is no obligation to register.
